Fermynwoods is an independent arts organisation and commissioning agency that works with artists and audiences. A year round programme explores and reflects on art and ecology to enhance understanding and engagement with the environment. This is achieved through artist residencies, site specific installations and participatory events which take place in the public realm across Northamptonshire and beyond, in collaboration with regional, national and international partners. Recent projects have involved artists James Smith, Richard Woods and Jacques Nimki.
I worked with Fermynwoods for around four years. Initially, I was commissioned to conduct a feasibility study for a partnership project with the Forestry Commission to create an international artists’ research residency in an old Hunting Lodge. This work grew to include capacity-building Fermynwoods to deliver and manage the project, and to increase its impact in the region. Along the way, we created a three year Business Plan, achieved charitable status, appointed two new members of staff, and fundraised for £500,000 capital, revenue and project costs. I was a Trustee from 2009 to 2012.
